College Caretaker

Barking and Dagenham College have a very busy Estates & Facilities Team, and we are looking for an energetic and pro-active College Caretaker to join our team.

You will join us on a full-time, 38 hours per week, permanent basis. In return we offer a competitive salary of £27,893 - £28,657 pa inc London Weighting.

The College Caretaker role:

To maintain the cleanliness, security and safety of the premises, and the security and safety of college staff, students and visitors.
Assist in the day-to-day operational activities of estates maintenance across all college sites.

Key Responsibilities of our College Caretaker:

  • To operate on a 3-shift pattern; 06.30am-14.30pm / 11am-7pm / 2.30pm-10.30pm
  • Early shift is onsite at 6:30am - one hour to ready the building
  • Daily tasks include, but are not restricted to – porterage, undertaking minor painting and decorating, carpet tiling, room reconfigurations
  • Estates helpdesk; Intermediate IT skills required - managing helpdesk tickets and emailing communications.
  • Set intruder alarms across the campus for nightly lock up - this is a highly critical role for attention to security and safety.
  • Use initiative to prioritise, respond to changing needs and work safely in line with health and safety
  • Log and report any breakages or damage to any item and carry out repairs and maintenance work to a safe standard.
  • Carry out routine administrative tasks, as required.

Our ideal College Caretaker should have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Educated up to GCSE Grade C/5 or equivalent (E)
  • Awareness of COSHH regulations (E)
  • Full driving licence (E)
  • Experience of building trades and all round practical experience (E)
  • Good organisational skills , including the ability to adapt to changing workload demands and new workplace challenges (E)
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions (E)
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and standards (E)
