We are seeking a Lecturer – English (Adult Core Skills) to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis.

Our Adult Core Skills provision plays a vital role in empowering adults within our community to build confidence in English, progress into employment, access higher-level study and support their families and communities.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Lecturer in English (Adult Core Skills), you will deliver engaging and inclusive English provision to adult learners, supporting them to develop practical literacy skills for work, further study and everyday life.

You will:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons, including Functional Skills and GCSE English (where applicable.
  • Develop engaging schemes of work tailored to adult learners with diverse starting points
  • Use learner-centred teaching and assessment strategies to drive progress and achievement
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback that builds confidence and promotes independence
  • Monitor and track attendance, progress and achievement, implementing timely interventions where required
  • Support learners with varying barriers to education, creating an inclusive and motivating classroom environment
  • Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring provision remains relevant to employment and progression pathways
  • Engage in continuous professional development to maintain up-to-date knowledge of adult education policy and practice

 

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a passionate and committed English specialist who understands the transformational impact of adult education.

You should have:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent)

In addition, you will demonstrate:

  • Experience teaching English within Further Education, ideally including adult learners
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills and/or GCSE English
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and inclusive teaching strategies
  • The ability to differentiate effectively for mixed-ability groups
  • Experience tracking and monitoring learner progress using digital systems
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A commitment to safeguarding and learner wellbeing
